Christian Jay Sope Laya is a distinguished local historian, cultural advocate, and researcher from Alabel, Sarangani Province. His dedication to the preservation and promotion of local history and culture has made him a respected figure in both academic and government circles.

 


He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Mindanao State University – General Santos City in June 2018, graduating cum laude. During his undergraduate studies, he was recognized for his outstanding research work, receiving awards for Best Thesis Presenter and Best Thesis in Qualitative Research from the Department of History, College of Social Sciences and Humanities of MSU – Gensan.

 

Following his undergraduate achievements, Christian pursued further education in the field of teaching, completing education units at Brokenshire College SOCCSKSARGEN, Inc. (BCSI). In March 2019, he successfully passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers, further broadening his qualifications and commitment to education.

 

Christian then advanced his academic pursuits at the graduate level, successfully completing the academic requirements for a Master of Arts in Philippine Studies at the Graduate School of MSU – Gensan, earning an impressive 1.25 GWA. Building on this foundation, he is currently finalizing his Master in Public Administration (MPA), major in Local and Regional Governance Administration, also at MSU – Gensan, reflecting his dedication to public service and local governance.

 

Since 2018, Christian has been actively serving the Local Government Unit of Alabel as a Senior Tourism Operations Officer and Municipal Information Officer (MIO) – designate. In these roles, he has been instrumental in promoting sustainable tourism, documenting cultural heritage, and providing accurate public information to the community. His work bridges academic research, cultural advocacy, and practical governance, making him a vital contributor to the growth and development of Alabel.
