Alabel: A City by Heart, A Vision for Generations
By Christian Jay S. Laya
Alabel, the capital of Sarangani Province, has long carried the dream of cityhood. But beyond the aspiration for a formal title, the municipality has already proven itself worthy of recognition through its track record of excellence, resiliency, and integrity in governance.
As a grandslam awardee of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), the highest distinction for a Local Government Unit, Alabel has demonstrated consistency in upholding transparency, accountability, and responsiveness. Its stature was further solidified when it ranked No. 1 in Economic Resiliency under the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index, standing tall as a model of strong local leadership.
Over the years, Alabel has also received multiple national recognitions under both the Duterte and Marcos administrations, spanning healthcare, peace and order, anti-criminality and anti-illegal drugs campaign, agriculture, innovation, education, tourism, and governance integrity. These honors are not just accolades, but testaments to a vision set in motion by former Municipal Mayor Vic Paul M. Salarda, MPA, and continued with steadfast dedication by Mayor Lilibeth “Ybing” J. Salarda, MPA.
Cityhood remains a cherished dream, but Alabel has already become a city by the heart of its people. The essence of good governance is present, the pillars of resiliency and accountability stand firm, and the light of transparency guides its every step.
For some, Alabel may not yet match the picture of an ideal city. But for its people, it already embodies the values, strength, and aspirations that define true progress. City or not, Alabel shines as a guiding vision for future generations, a place where good governance lives, and where dreams continue to take root. #
